FIRE & FLOOD

We've had rain for days now…and yesterday evening, our first snow—big, wet flakes that chilled your neck and drenched your face and eventually managed to accumulate an inch of slush on the ground.

Today I had to do some errands and when combined with my usual loitering, gabbing, and a stop by a local used book store, managed to swallow the entire day. And a pretty day it was—bright sunshine throughout. Cold, though. And of course the river is now up.

About 4:00 p.m. I managed to make it back to the cottage for a late lunch. Turkey soup, which I gulped, because I wanted to make a quick run upriver before sunset and see if any Canada geese were poking about the backwaters. Dusk comes early along the river.

As it turned out, the geese were absent from their usual hangouts. But just before the sun slipped below the ridge on the west side of the stream, the foamy current washing through the flooded timber turned into a fiery molten gold. Lovely. Worth a rushed meal and short drive.

Such a precious gem in the days of your life. Could not think of a better.

Arija…

Thank you. Doesn't light always make the difference?

We had our first snow several weeks ago and a blizzard a week and a half ago. Hasn't been dreadfully cold though, it was -2 Celsius today. I love the change of seasons and the Advent and Christmas season is my favorite time of year.
You had a full day today Grizz, that is a good thing.....:-)Hugs

Bernie…

We've been spoiled by an unseasonable autumn which has lingered—though we all knew the flakes would get here eventually. Last night, when that wet sloppy snow came, I was out running around various stores without a jacket, and regretting it every time I hiked across another parking lot to the car. But…all that is as it should be. This is the season for such weather. I love Advent and Christmas, all twelve days, and right on to Old Christmas, or Twelfth Night.

I did have a full day and I'm about to hit the hay as a result; 5:45 comes early. Being busy is a good thing most of the time. Lots of stuff tomorrow, too, and Friday, and a Christmas party Saturday evening. Take care…

Didn't quite get what I hoped—but then it seldom does. It was pretty light on the river, though.

Definitely worth a rushed meal and short drive.

Yup. I can feed myself in the dark. Definitely got to dig around the closets and find some gloves, though—metal camera bodies are great cold conductors.

Much as I like to eat—and yesterday, by the time I finally managed lunch I was starved!—I'm always willing to forgo food for a photo…even it turned out to be golden but gooseless.

Thank you, as always—and take care.

Sorry I missed this post earlier in the week. Such lovely light. Looks like you should get busy panning for gold.

Ahhhh…this gold is a treasure for the eyes only. And as pretty as this shot is, I still like your reflected tree better.
