SPOTTY CHANGE

Autumn's color is truly getting underway—in some quarters, anyway. At certain corners, a stretch of woodland edge, this fencerow, that particular maple, the change-over is occasionally dazzling. But elsewhere it's still spotty, even almost nonexistent, as if not every bush and tree has yet gotten the message. Or maybe this patchy early color is just the plant-world's example of those folks who always insist on arriving 45 minutes early for church, a movie, or their dinner reservations at a restaurant.

I made the top photo from the truck, just up the road, during a morning shower. The image on the bottom, a view of the river a half-mile upstream from the cottage, was taken a few minutes later.

See what I mean?

Of course some things, such as this spiraling crimson flame of Virginia creeper couldn't turn any brighter, or redder, or prettier if it took another full month to strut its stuff. This individual vine is at its very peak, though other nearby examples range from pink to pale-orange to still fully green.

HI GRIZZ - your pictures are beautiful as are your words to define them and how and where they came about. I love how you capture nature as it peeks out and calls to you.

Thank you. Hope you had as lovely a day in your bailiwick yesterday as we did here—blue sky, low-70s, as pretty a fall day as you ever saw. Supposed to rain today, though—and for the next couple of days.

Be good!

Hi again - yesterday her was dreadful, muggy, over-cast, foggy. Today tho! Lovely, blue sky, dry, a gentle breeze, glorious AND cooler temps to follow - only in the 50's this weekend. Time for a fire in the ole stove and some home made stew. mmmmmm today we are headed to our new place to meet the 'floors guy', and also some other deliveries are expected. One project at a time we are getting thru this transition to freedom. Amen
Enjoy your weekend
Love you always

Sounds like today you got our weather from yesterday. So far, the predicted rain hasn't materialized here—and it's bright, though with a thin layer of clouds overhead. I'm hoping it will hold off on the rain awhile.

I did a green bean and pork stir fry last night for supper, with some sautéed white eggplant topped with cheese and salsa as a side. I'm having that as leftovers for my lunch. For tonight, I have chicken thighs-slow cooking with rub and sauce, onion and garlic, in the crock pot which I'll finished "pulled," and add a salad.

Grizz,I like the downstream image of the river for a change. You're usually photographing upstream 9as am I).

Haven't eaten yet. Got sidetracked rearranging furniture and such in the great room because the reception of the classical radio startion, which we usually listen to during breakfast, kept drifting and fading.

In order to to relocate the receiver to an improved signal location, I ended up moving and shifting half the stuff on one side of the room…and of course, I dusted while I was at it…which meant I then had to dust objects in the other end of the room to match…which necessitated more moving…then I thought'd I might as well vacuum while I was at it…and so I moved the furniture I'd moved before plus all the furniture I hadn't…and, well, one thing led to another and another and about ten more things—including messing with my CDs—and so here I am, lunch-diverted and hungrier than ever.

But I will eat soon, those leftovers, and I will enjoy them because I'm one of those who'd almost rather eat leftovers than the initial meal.

While this is not the downstream view from my cottage stretch—it's the same river a half-mile or so above here. You're right that I probably post ten shots looking across, upstream quartering, or straight upstream to every one of the view downstream.

Much I'd like to woof you and claim I so frequently photograph upstream views because as a lifelong stream fisherman, I'm now programmed to face upstream…or that I'm an "upstream"positive person…or that the independent iconoclast makeup of my personality wouldn't dream of going WITH the current…or that as a spiritual seeker I'm always interested in following to the source.

But, though these are all true, the simple fact is, from here, the cottage stretch, I make upstream images because it's the more interesting and diverse view given the pool, riffle, rocks, etc.

However, I'm not a total bigot—about three posts back (A MODEST REPORT) the second shot is a downstream view from the yard.

Yup. Really late, but really good. 'Course I was near-starved by the time I ate, so I'd long since passed the point of picky. :-)
